Stable isotopes in palaeodietary reconstructions in Brazil: recommendations for an archaeological research agenda

03/29/2023

In this paper Luis Pezo-Lanfranco and Andre Colonese reflect on the potential application of stable isotopes for the archaeological study of diet, and make some recommendations to address archaeological problems with isotopic methods in pre-colonial and historical populations on the Brazilian coast. To reach these objectives, they introduce the reader to the general principles of stable isotopes and their applications, discussing some of the most significant advances on the subject in the region, and developing some ideas on the diversity of topics that can be addressed in future research with stable isotopes.
